Waxing is a temporary method of hair removal, which removes the hair from the root lasting for up to periods between 3 to 8 weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet.
Waxing involves a series of techniques, which include spreading a wax mixture thinly over the skin. A cotton or paper strip is then pressed on the top and ripped off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth. This removes the wax along with the hair and dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth. There are many other methods that one can adopt; one of them involving the use of hot wax/soft wax that is directly applied to the skin. Once it cools, the wax hardens which then allows it to be easily remove by a therapist.
There are many advantages to waxing against other forms of hair removal. Waxing is a long-lasting approach and when hair does grow back, it is often softer and thinner.
However, through the use of shaving or other forms of removal from depilatory cream, hair is only removed from the surface of the skin as opposed to from the root of the hair. Within several days, the hair is clearly visible at the surface of the skin again.
Skin that experiences waxing on a regular basis, will over time prove to grow softer, thinner and lighter in colour.
